Researchers and skeptics have offered two main hypotheses for the nature of abductions: that they are either objective, physical events, or subjective and “psychosocial” in origin. The former researchers cite physical evidence such as scars, “scoop marks,” implants, and the occasional witnessed abduction. The latter propose that the phenomenon is solely psychological, perhaps a result of a “myth-making” function of the human psyche or an expression of the collective unconscious, or subconscious repetition of memes from popular culture.
Raymond Fowler, in his ongoing investigation of Betty Andreasson, was perhaps the first to suggest a third option. In 1990 he published his third book on the case, The Watchers: The Secret Design Behind UFO Abduction, where he noted that his views gradually changed over the years from a strictly physical interpretation to a more paraphysical one. Two of Andreasson’s abductions featured out-of-body experiences, causing Fowler to see the two phenomena as “intimately related” and later to coin the term “OBE abduction.”
During a hypnotic regression of a 1950 event, Betty recalled having an OBE during the course of a physical abduction. During a 1978 event, both she and her husband experienced simultaneous OBEs. While in this disembodied state, they were then both abducted. In 1986 a Gray seemed to induce an OBE using a device that appeared to be attached to its back. She was told she was about to be “transported in a much different way.” Betty could see her body lying on a couch, seemingly animate and reading her bible as she “faded away” after the device seemed to “cause a shower of sparkly light to engulf both of them.” But whereas Betty left her body to travel with the alien, the alien appeared to retain its own body during the process. Fowler concluded:
It would appear that human consciousness travels to a different nonlocal space/time frame apart from the so-called physical body. But, in the case of the alien entities, it appears that their physical bodies make this same transition by a dematerialization process.
Fowler concludes that “UFOs and their occupants are perfectly capable of traveling between at least two different planes of existence.”
In articles published in 1990 and 1991, Michael Topper presented a similar idea, inspired by Fowler’s work as well as the Ra material’s representation of aliens as higher-dimensional “fourth-density” beings. He speculated that many UFO abduction scenes are “thought-forms” manufactured in an astral or “4D” medium and could more properly be called “astral abductions.” The abductee is either “spirited to the ‘vibratory frequency’ of that density through dissociation of the astral vehicle from the physical” or brought “directly” into a 4D state.
There were hints of this in the literature of the time. In Watchers II (1995), Fowler cites seven additional descriptions of OBE abductions from studies published between 1979 and 1989. Judy Doraty, for example, recalled that during the onset of her 1973 abduction experience a “spotlight” shone on the trunk of her car. Redfern summarizes the details in his Top Secret Alien Abduction Files:
Doraty said that the light seemed to have what she called “substance” to it. […] Although, under hypnosis, Doraty recalled being outside of her vehicle and on the ground, it was as if her mind had somehow been relocated to the craft. She seemed to have recall of two very different things, but which were going on simultaneously.
In Transformation (1988), Whitley Strieber relayed that from the many letters he received in response to his first abduction book, Communion (1987), “People experienced feeling as if their souls were being dragged from their bodies.” In Taken (1994), Karla Turner shared a few similar accounts. “Polly” recalled thinking her “mind was sucked out” of her body as she was “spun and sucked upward into a UFO.” “Lisa” described feeling “a great pulling, and I’m not sure if I was in spirit form or my body, but very quickly I was in the clouds and sky.” “Angie” remembered being teleported aboard a UFO, as if “sucked into a long tunnel of electric orange light.” While within this light “she felt separated from her body,” which she could see “tumbling and twirling beside [her] and all the bones, veins, and internal organs visible.”
All these were preempted by folklorist Walter Evans-Wentz’s 1911 “soul-wandering theory” for faerie abduction. Folklore worldwide suggested (among several other interpretations) that “the human soul can be abstracted from the body by disembodied spirits and by magicians.” Lobsang Rampa’s book The Hermit (1971) also features an OBE abduction.
With the Ra material as a foundation, the Cassiopaeans provide a similar picture of the complex nature of the abduction experience.

Q: (L) How many levels and types of abductions are there?
A: Six.
February 25, 1995
Q: (L) There are about 6 different kinds of abductions ranging from physical to telepathic contact and triggering.
A: And there are human abductions too. [See this part of the series for “military abductions” (MILABs).]
Etheric Abduction
In the session on November 2, 1994, the C’s said: “When you are abducted you are 3rd density but you are taken into 4th density.” They added that the Grays use “reflective remolecularization imaging” via “energy focusing” to achieve this. They expanded on this in various sessions, eventually calling the process “transdimensional atomic remolecularization” (or TDARM). They connected this type of abduction with what Karla Turner called Virtual Reality Simulations (see part 1). In such abductions, the physical body remains in place, e.g. in bed. Turner writes: “The aliens, whether by intellectual, psychic, or technological means, are able to create any perception, and therefore any illusion, for the person in their hands.”

Q: (L) In a virtual reality abduction, does any part of the person actually leave and go into another dimension?
A: Soul replication.
Q: (L) So, a replica of their soul, like a shadow of the soul, so to speak, like maybe a holographic part of the soul gets moved into another dimension and experiences events. Is that what you mean?
A: That is close.
Q: (L) So, when a person experiences a virtual reality abduction, it’s virtually real in the sense that it happens to them on some level, or to some part of them?
A: It is real.
Q: (L) But their physical body is not being abducted and going anywhere?
A: The original does not. […] Think of photocopier, similar concept.
January 21, 1995
Q: (D) Transdimensional atomic remolecularization – is this teleportation?
A: Close.
Q: (D) OK, so this is the way we will transfer from 3rd to 4th?
A: Technology for this purpose.
In Them, Strieber relates an enigmatic statement told to a witness in 1985: “we rearrange atoms.”
June 17, 1995 (direct channeling via Frank)
Q: (L) A couple of nights ago I did a session with my son to examine the events that took place on August 16, 1993, over my pool, wherein a couple of UFO-type objects were seen by all of us, kind of casually drifting by. In this hypnosis session, after two or three passes through the subject, he indicated that, in fact, that was not merely a sighting of something going overhead, but was actually an abduction situation. […] One remark he made during this session – and this startled me a little, and I would like to get a little amplification on the subject – was that toward the end when I asked what happened, he said that he was “taken apart and beamed back down without benefit of a pain suppressor.” This meant that when he was demolecularized some sort of device that is used to suppress pain was not used, and the process of atomic demolecularization or remolecularization can actually be painful, and can cause distress. Is this correct?
A: Possibly. The whole process of abduction can be stressful, but, to varying degrees and, […] as with everything else, it is your own perception of reality that is the most important factor […]
Q: (L) I don’t understand what you mean. […] Does it hurt to be taken to pieces molecularly, beamed aboard a space ship and then sent back? (J) Can this be painful to the body?
A: […] you are getting way ahead of yourself. Do you honestly believe that a beam of light came down and “took you to pieces,” moved your body physically onboard a space vehicle, did some form of examination or some such thing and then reassembled your entire body without a pain suppressor? Is this what you believe?
Q: […] (J) We have never heard the term “pain suppressor” before. (L) Yes, we have never heard anything about anything like this; and do I believe a beam of light could have come down and disassembled us and reassembled me, and then something was done to me? Well, from what I have studied I would say it is possible. I mean, knowing about the time-manipulation capabilities of said entities, it is entirely possible that it could have happened without any awareness of any loss of time whatsoever.
A: Yes, this is true, however, we have told you in previous sessions, in detail, the methodology that is used for what you refer to as “abduction.” […] Your description of it is not completely correct […] or at least your interpretation of the information given during the hypnosis session given is not correct. […]
You are not normally removed as a physical third-density being from one locator to another. What happens is very simple. The time-frame is normally “frozen” […] your perception of time in your physical-locator, third-density body, ceases to pass during this period of […] “zero time” […] The soul imprint occupying or of that particular host body is removed forcibly, transported to another locator, and remolecularized as a separate physical entity body for purpose of examination, implantation, and other. […] It is then demolecularized and the soul imprint is replaced in the original body at the original locator. […]
On April 29, 1995, the C’s had said that “time ‘freezes’ during abduction.” In part 2, they said that one of the participants’ son was “frozen” during her abduction. This phenomenon of bystanders being “paralyzed, rendered unconscious, or ‘switched off’” (as Bruce Rapuano puts it) during abductions is commonly reported. Rapuano quotes several examples from the literature. Abductees report family members being “frozen,” “like, you know, ice” or looking “like statues,” completely unaware. This state is often interpreted as being a result of neural control. While this may be the case, at least in part, some accounts support the idea that it may also be the result of time manipulation. Rapuano, for instance, notes of one of his early childhood close encounters experiencing “the vague sense of a distortion in the passage of time.” He felt a strange sense of disconnection, “almost as if time had somehow stopped.”
Linda Cortile made the following observation after describing an abduction experience in which the people around here were seemingly “switched off”:
“You know what was really strange? […] There were people in the swimming pool already. […] You know when you splash? It was above the pool. […] But it didn’t fall down. It was like a photograph. […] Nobody was moving, and the water, the splashes weren’t moving either. And we walked right by everybody frozen like that and nobody even looked at us.”
In The Watchers II, Bob Luca, husband of Betty Andreasson, was asked about their shared OBE abduction while under hypnosis what the state of their bodies would have been to an external observer. Luca replied: “You would find two shells frozen in time. […] There is almost no time passing where the bodies are. […] Time is nothing.”
The phenomenon of missing time usually involves the abductee unable to account for significant stretches of time, from minutes to hours. This is usually chalked up solely to induced amnesia. However, a handful of cases suggest more may be involved and that time may also go missing in the opposite direction.
Timothy Good relates a time anomaly experienced by Pierre Monnet in 1951. At 1:30 a.m. he took a bike trip from his small French village to Orange, eight kilometers away. He suddenly found himself “instantly transported” five kilometers ahead, where he had a close encounter involving a landed saucer (into which he drove his bike). After the encounter, he took off on his bike, again finding himself instantly transported the rest of the way to the outskirts of Orange. Both his watch and the town-hall clock read 1:35. “I had to rationalize it. Time could not have passed. Time had stopped during the journey and the meeting—which I thought had lasted about twenty minutes.” His bike journey itself normally took twenty minutes, amounting to approximately 40 minutes of literally missing time.
Moira McGhee shares the 1952 case of Rolf Lunnisted. Like Monnet, he had a close encounter in the woods. At its conclusion “Rolf found himself only 50 meters from his own front door. The biggest surprise was to come. He realised he was early. Somehow, he had travelled back in time by at least 30 minutes or more. It was now 9.55 p.m. and the same radio show which had finished before he left his friend’s home was still playing.” McGhee also cites the case of “Lydia,” who found that a car journey “had taken one and a half hours less than it should have taken.”
The juncture between remembered moments is often described as “seamless,” like a “cut” between scenes in a film. One instant the abductee is in location x and time a, the next instant they are in location y at time b. Other times they will fall asleep and then awaken what seems like only an instant later. In Confessions (2019), Robert Hastings describes the experience: “the overall impression was that of leaving the driveway, turning onto Route 78, gaining speed, and then—in the blink of an eye—arriving at the intersection nine miles distant. It was a seamless effect.” These disjointed but seamless “frames” may represent the onset and termination of the “time-lock.” Luis Elizondo, in conversation with Hastings, speculated that he had experienced “a wrinkle in spacetime.”
The session continues:
A: On occasion, the fourth-density beings doing the abduction can actually make a mistake in the time-referencing points of the third-density illusion. This may create the effect of the appearance of an alternate or duplicate experience [as in the case above of Lunnisted], when, in actuality there has only been one experience. This was what happened in your case. As you perceived the passage of two “ships” […] when in actuality, there was only one. That is because the time-frame-reference illusion was not completely matched from beginning of event to the end of the event in zero time. Normally, however, that is not a problem.
On rare occasions, the host or the subject of the abduction can actually find themselves replaced in the time-frame illusion in what could appear to be several hours, day, weeks, or […] years prior to the beginning of the event, which […] could cause side effects such as total insanity […] Fortunately that did not occur in your case, but there was some fracturing of the time-frame-reference illusion. […]
Jorjani, who argues that UFOs (and their bases) create space-time anomalies in their vicinity, takes this idea to the extreme, speculating that some Missing 411 victims become accidentally spatiotemporally displaced by thousands or millions of years in such areas and “eventually come back into phase with their point of origin in space-time, although they are often dead by the time that they do so.” (The C’s have a different explanation, but the principle is similar.)
[…] this is not a physical, third-density experience in its entirety. There is the soul imprint that all first-density, second-density, third-density, and fourth-density beings possess […] that is extracted. From that soul imprint a duplicate copy or cloning, if you will, which appears on fourth density, can then be made and studied and the soul imprint is then replaced into the original body at whatever density it was taken. This is normally how the process is done. […]
Q: (T) How does the implant come back to the third-density body that’s originally still here?
A: […] it is very complex to try and describe how the fourth density is translated into third density, except that once the duplicate, the fourth-density cloning, […] is present, all fourth-density realities surrounding that fourth-density duplicate will be matched in third density whenever and wherever desired. Because, in effect, it is the entire density level which is being exchanged, not just the object contained within.
Q: (L) So, in other words, just as the soul imprint, when it goes into fourth density, can be used as a template to create a carbon copy, so to speak, then anything that is done to the carbon copy then becomes a template that recreates that same manifestation when it is sent back into the third.
A: Precisely. With the only variance there being that technology is used to make sure that implants, or added material that comes from fourth density, […] will also translate equally into third density through the remolecularization process. […]
Q: (L) So, in this particular case, something was done, something occurred here, which affected me. My subsequent physical condition makes me curious as to whether the physical reactions I had for six to nine months, and still have occasionally, following this event, were a third-density reaction to the, what you call, fracturing of time. Was this an aberration or was this intentional?
A: […] It does not occur as a result of the “fracturing” of the time-frame-reference illusion. It occurs as a result, simply and merely, of your psychic-impression imprint of the experience itself reflecting back into your third-density physical reality. […]
Q: (T) Is the pain that L.’s son described not what he said it was, but rather the pain that is related when the fourth-density being removes the life force?
A: Life force is never removed. The soul is extracted. […] L.’s son is merely expressing the discomfort and distress that most third- and second-density beings experience when abducted by fourth-density service-to-self entities. […]
Q: (L) […] I am trying to find out a little bit about the nature of the abduction process in general. I mean, is it done randomly or is it done to specific persons for specific reasons? My thought is that maybe specific people are targeted to put them out of commission. […]
A: […] Any STS being who possesses a greater power than you do will not have any extreme difficulty in “putting you out of commission” if they so desire. This has happened […]
Karin Wilkinson describes something that could be the above “soul extraction” process in Stolen Seed, Evil Harvest:
[After paralysis] I would feel an intensifying buzzing and vibration consume me—a low humming noise would sometimes accompany this feeling. My body would be vibrating such that I felt as if I was coming apart in a way that is impossible to describe. Then, I would be taken out of my room, against my will.
Such a “buzzing” is also associated with out-of-body experiences. In one of the accounts shared by Strieber in Them, the contributor writes:
Before I could volunteer to go outside and see what was going on, all our nice little stories about OBEs and possession were shattered, as something invisible grabbed me by the chest and started pulling with amazing force. I felt like my soul, not my body, was being pulled up vertically toward the loud throbbing noise […]
One of Dr. John Mack’s subjects, Greg, similarly felt as if a reptilian was “trying to extract his soul from his physical body.”
Marden and Stoner write: “The vast majority of credible abduction experiencers describe one of two physical sensations during their transport on and off the craft. They feel a rhythmic, pulsing energy that might begin as being somewhat painful, or as if every cell in their body is coming apart.” They summarize the thoughts of one of their subjects, Jennie:
She also suspects that the process of transforming the physical human body into another dimensional state by increasing its vibrational frequency [soul extraction?], then back to the physical for processing on the ET craft [remolecularization in 4D?], and back to a higher vibrational frequency [demolecularization?] to be returned to a natural human environment at a lower vibrational frequency creates an electromagnetic energy discharge that causes poltergeist activity.
Ann Druffel reports Jean Moncrief’s recollection of an astral abduction:
She remembers consciously that she was outside her third-floor apartment window as she floated back to her bed. “They had brought me from the sky,” she describes. She states that she saw her body on the bed inside the room, and then remembers that the aliens were “turning” her as they put her back into her physical body.
Commenting on the tendency for Missing 411 victims’ bodies to return without shoes and socks, the C’s said: “Recall that this process [transdimensional transference] includes something like flipping backwards and inside out through the realm curtain.”
In his contribution to David Jacobs’s UFOs and Abductions, John Mack wrote: “Witnesses to this event are rare, but the experiences are so intensely physical that abductees feel quite certain that some, though not all, of the time their physical form, as opposed to their astral or other forms of the subtle body, are taken.” In Passport to the Cosmos (1999) he expanded on this, writing:
But I must confess that the more deeply I have explored this phenomenon over the past decade, the less certain I have become about when the abductees are speaking of something that happened to them literally in this material reality and when they are communicating in metaphoric language events they experienced as utterly real in a physical sense but that happened to their subtle, astral, or energetic bodies, which may be the actual locus of the sense of self.

Q: (L) In a previous session we were given a small dissertation on the process of abduction. It was described for us in some detail. Now, what we would like to know is, if our souls are abducted from our bodies and then used as a pattern for remolecularization in fourth density, is there ever, at any time, a remolecularized clone that is retained in fourth density even after the soul has been returned to its original body?
A: No, it’s not possible.
Q: (L) So, they don’t keep a pattern or clone of any of us after they have abducted us, “they” being a general term?
A: No. […]
Q: (L) Now, the question has arisen that, since other-dimensional beings have the ability to kidnap or abduct or forcibly extract souls, do they also have the capability of manipulating our soul essences after they have left our bodies during the transition to fifth density?
A: Not correct. [More on this in future parts.]

Q: (L) Once you told us to study Tesla coils, antimatter… destabilizing the gravity waves through EM generation allows the antimatter to interact with matter which then creates a portal. Is it in the antimatter universe that all this traveling back and forth is done by aliens when they abduct people?
A: Close. They transport through it, but most abductions take place in either 3rd or 4th density.
Q: (L) Is this movement through the antimatter universe […] what people perceive in their abductions as the “wall of fire”? The coming apart? The demolecularizing?
A: No. That is transdimensional atomic remolecularization.
November 21, 1998
Q: (M) “I’ve had three experiences with aliens, who kindly provided me with silicon beads of some kind. Were these physical abductions or just projections?”
A: One begets the other. A projection involves transdimensional atomic remolecularization.

Q: OK, now this next correspondent writes: “I decided to listen to one of the C’s suggestions about melatonin. […] what really blew me away was a dream couple of nights ago. I dream that I was lifting up from my bed, through the chimney (which I do not have) into a space ship! I could actually see myself lifting off the bed. Then I was on some sort of a raised surface with a short BEING with long arms and A HUMAN DOCTOR beside me. The little fellow seemed rather upset and tried to calm me down even though I was at peace, waving his arms to stop doing something. Then the doctor tried to do something to my lower back but I woke up. Now get this – I woke up turned around – with my feet on my pillows, on my back which I rarely do. When I got up, I actually noticed that the sheets weren’t messed up at all – when I toss in my sleep, the sheets are always kicked off half of the bed. I don’t know what happened, I know it sounds suspicious but I am very skeptical. […]” I want to ask about this dream that our friend had under the influence of melatonin. There has been something of a controversy about it recently as one group claims that melatonin is stimulated in the brain by aliens in order to cause the paralysis that overcomes the victim and thereby enables them to go about their nefarious abducting activity. Is that, in fact, the case? Is melatonin part of the paralysis factor of alien abduction?
A: No. […] Melatonin only serves to make one more aware of processes in this context. […]
Q: OK, what about our friend’s dream; was this a memory, a dream or an abduction?
A: Etheric-body abduction.
Q: What was the purpose of abducting his etheric body?
A: Study.
Q: Who abducted his etheric body?
A: Orion STS. […]
Q: So, lots of people are being abducted, physically, etherically, or in other ways, and simply are not aware of it at all?
A: More often etherically.

Q: (L) We watched one film that showed a strange, dark object shooting down towards the ground [near the World Trade Center]. What was that?
A: 4th-density energy surge.
Q: (L) Where was it surging from and to?
A: Dome of destruction-energy time lock to ground.
Q: (L) Are you saying that there was a dome of a time lock over this area? Do you mean that they put a “time lock” over this area so that they could “harvest” bodies or energy?
A: Close.
Q: (BT) Was there any other purpose besides harvest?
A: Gathering records, gold, soul extraction […]
Q: (L) Might these records also have been an extraction of “records” from people as they were dying?
A: Yes.
Q: (L) For what purpose did they intend to use the souls that were extracted?
A: Remolecularization.
Q: What will they used these remolecularized beings for?
A: Insert them back into building to escape and be rescued.
Q: (L) Are you saying that this was an opportunity used as a very traumatic screen event of a mass abduction, so to say?!
A: Yes.
Q: (L) What was done to these people who were abducted? Was there a specific reason for a mass abduction?
A: Turn on the programs.
Q: (TB) So, those who “escaped” are very likely programmed individuals turned loose in our society, people with programs set to make them run amok at some point?
A: Close.

Q: (L) You’ve talked about how an abduction is done, that it happens like soul extraction: the soul is taken to 4th density, a body is molecularly reassembled in 4D “matter,” the work is done on the reassembled body there in 4D, and then that body is disassembled and the soul or consciousness is sent back through the realm curtain. It then carries with it the pattern of the manipulation which then causes those changes or manipulations to come into effect within the body on 3D Earth. So, I have some idea of how that works, but maybe this isn’t a question I should ask, but… I really have to ask it: How does that happen? How do they do that?!
A: Recall that 4D is a realm where thought has the power to create. If a mind, and here we mean much more than you understand as mind, thinks about a structure or something that needs to be accomplished, it assembles itself, more or less. Then when the structure is sent back through the realm curtain, the “idea” is the attractor blueprint that draws to itself the matching elements from your reality and they proceed through the process of organic assembly. This occurs because even inanimate matter has a minimal level of matching consciousness.
Q: […] (L) So, let me repeat this back and see if I understand it. So you’re saying that, say, some 4D geneticist gets somebody and they do what in abduction accounts appear to be nonsensical activities. But yet, in 4D reality, they are possibly doing something that has a certain thought and intent behind it that may not be apparent to us. Whatever minor thing they may be doing that makes no sense to us, is actually causing something to happen according to what they’re thinking. If they want to change somebody’s DNA, they think it, and it kinda changes. And then they do a molecular disassembly from the molecules of 4D, which are different. They behave differently, they are different. Then the body comes back and… (Andromeda) This is a full abduction, body and consciousness? (L) Well, I think it doesn’t have to be. They’ve said that rarely are there full abductions where they take the body, too. They put a time-lock on, they take out the consciousness, and the 3D body’s left there frozen. So then they send the consciousness back through, and then because there is a certain amount of consciousness in inanimate matter – that is, in chemicals of all sorts – somehow these chemicals frequency match themselves to the idea structures. (Joe) It’s a blueprint.
(Pierre) The way I understand it, the directing thing is the idea in 4D. The blueprint. For some reason, since in 3D molecules or elements have a bit of consciousness, there is a kind of resonance between the blueprint (the mind of 4D) and the elements in 3D. So they coalesce and finally the 4D idea materializes within the 3D world. (Joe) Well, it doesn’t necessarily materialize. It can change the structure of something material. (L) Yeah. The idea materializes itself by just activating laws of physics and chemistry. (Joe) So that idea can basically impress itself on matter in 3D, and change the structure of it. (L) I suppose there are no limits to the applications. But of course I’m thinking particularly about living things. (Andromeda) It’s kind of like the experiments with water where it changes structure when you focus on it. It’s like that, but the next level up. (L) But we’re not able to do much more than change a bit of water. They’re talking about literally changing DNA and possibly more.
(Joe) But they said that in 4D, thoughts are things, basically. Thought has the power to create. So they said that when someone there thinks about a structure or something that needs to be accomplished, it assembles itself more or less. Does that mean it’s assembled in a material, physical way? (L) In a 4D material way, which is semi-material in comparison to our 3D material world. (Joe) There’s no physical thing that’s sent through the realm curtain, right? (L) No. (Chu) It’s almost like the way receptors work on cells. You need a minimal level of consciousness, and that matches the thing from 4D the way a receptor binds to a biochemical – things just “fit”.
(Andromeda) But then does the consciousness have to be removed for that to happen, or is it restructured in the body? (L) I think it’s easier for them to do it in 4D. They take the consciousness into 4D so they can do that! Because they have reassembled a body around a consciousness that is a 4D body that’s made out of 4D matter which behaves apparently quite differently from our matter. It’s much more malleable. And then those changes get kind of “imprinted” into the consciousness. Then they dissolve that 4D body, send the consciousness back into its 3D body which then, because it has been changed… And that tells you a little bit about how powerful your own consciousness is! If you could effectively change your own consciousness at those same deep levels, you could probably effect changes in matter! And of course they’re working with things that we don’t have. They’ve got toys we don’t have. (Pierre) And the mind as well.

Q: (L) [In the Salyut-7 cosmonaut case from part 1b,] was that the usual way of abducting, where you draw out the soul essence, remolecularize a body around it, and then work on it and then put the soul back? I mean, they didn’t actually go into the space station and take them physically, did they?
A: No.
Q: (L) And it was, as I proposed that it was, the usual mode?
A: Yes.
Q: (L) And what was the purpose of it?
A: Sampling to determine effects of space travel on physiology.
Q: (L) And they can do that because when they remolecularized them, everything remolecularized is exactly as the actual body? Is that it?
A: Yes.
In recent years several researchers have suggested the idea of soul abductions as an alternative to the physical hypothesis. Nick Redfern, in The NASA Conspiracies (2011), quotes a NASA employee, Joe Jordan, who told him:
The people don’t get taken to a ship; they are physically still in bed. I have a couple of cases where people had the abduction experience while in the presence of a witness who was awake. They didn’t go anywhere. They almost went into an unconscious state. This was only for a few minutes, but they came out of it totally exhausted and could talk about what had happened to them, and it would take hours for them to tell it all. […] Like a time-displacement. I’m not sure I would call it a hallucination, maybe […] something along the lines of a hologram, but it’s still in the mind.
In Earth (2013), Timothy Good writes: “While the evidence suggests that many [abductions] are physical[,] I believe it likely that some involve abduction of the astral body.” And in A Trojan Feast (2015), Joshua Cutchin notes that contactee and abductee reports “frequently incorporate mystical aspects that seem more akin to near-death or out-of-body experiences.” In Thieves in the Night (2018), he writes: “Child abductees regularly report their experiences beginning with the sensation of levitation. This act may be physical or astral (i.e. an out-of-body experience) and is commonly, but not always, accompanied by a shaft of light.”
Many of the kidnappings […] represent what at least seem to be physical encounters. While not discounting physicalist interpretations of faerie and alien abduction, the body of evidence simply has too much of a spiritual mouthfeel to ignore metaphysical solutions
And in 2019, Robert Hastings wrote:
As for Fowler’s contention that the abductions probably occur while the abductee’s consciousness is in an OBE state, this cannot possibly be true during those instances when the individual awakens to find blood, scratches, bruises and/or scoop marks, or subsequently discovers manufactured implants of one kind or another in various parts of his/her body. […] That said, there do indeed seem to be some occasions when the person’s consciousness is somehow displaced during the abduction. Among their set of experiences, many abductees report leaving their bodies and floating above the earth, sometimes traveling long distances before returning to their physical forms.
As we’ve seen above, “astral” abduction may in fact produce lasting physical effects such as the above, including scars and implants.
