Ancient astronauts?

Ever since Charles Fort, UFOs have been tied to alternative histories of mankind. Fort first suggested such a thing in The Book of the Damned (1919), writing:

I think we’re property. I should say we belong to something: That once upon a time, this earth was No-man’s Land, that other worlds explored and colonized here, and fought among themselves for possession, but that now it’s owned by something: That something owns this earth—all others warned off.

He even speculated that life on Earth may have “come from somewhere else,” its evolution “induced by external influences.”

The dawn of modern ufology in 1947 continued the trend, with numerous researchers hypothesizing that the UFO phenomenon was not modern, but ancient. The list of influential authors from this time, some of whom went on to write multiple books on the subject, included names such as Morris K. Jessup, Aimé Michel, George Hunt Williamson, Robert Charroux and John Michell. Their books introduced a number of themes, such as “paleocontact” (ancient ET visitation and interaction) and early ET influence upon human development, culture and technology. They focused largely on ancient texts and structures, interpreting the world’s myths as evidence of actual interactions with non-human intelligences, and megalithic structures either as built for the “gods” or by the gods themselves.

These ideas gained massive popularity with an author outside the field of ufology: Erich von Däniken, who released Chariots of the Gods in 1968 (with dozens of subsequent books, the last of which was published in 2024). His book was preceded a couple of years earlier by Carl Sagan and Iosif Shklovsky’s 1966 Intelligent Life in the Universe, in which the authors seriously considered the possibility of ancient contact in Sumeria. Zecharia Sitchin’s 1976 book The 12th Planet launched Nibiru and the Anunnaki into the public consciousness. (He published around a dozen more books on similar themes before his death in 2010.) Together, works such as these engendered a new genre in the 1970s: “ancient astronaut” theory, now even further popularized by the hit History Channel show Ancient Aliens (2009–present).

Fewer such works were published in the 1980s, following academic criticism such as that in Sagan’s Broca’s Brain (1979). However, since the 1990s, several serious researchers have carried on the tradition, including David Hatcher Childress, Arthur Horn, Bruce Rux, Joseph P. Farrell, Jim Marrs, Tom DeLonge and Peter Levenda.

Ufologists and researchers are divided as to nature of paleocontact. While most seem to believe it occurred, some are skeptical that the beings involved are identical to those currently intervening in human affairs (e.g. the Grays). Richard Dolan, for example, does not see a history of overt control through the ages, citing the “lack of clearcut UFO sightings in ancient times” (many accounts of which seem more like reports of comets or fireballs) and the lack of “reliable accounts of genuine alien-looking beings.” Some, like Rux, Farrell and Jason Reza Jorjani, argue for continuity between eras, but ascribe the phenomenon to an ancient human race with its origin most likely from within our solar system. Others, like John Keel, argue that the phenomenon is constant and non-human, adopting various forms at different times, e.g. as “extraterrestrials” in the modern era. For instance, in Saga (Sept. 1973), Keel wrote:

[…] if George Adamski or Howard Menger had lived a few thousand years ago their stories would have been engraved in stone and handed down, from one generation to the next, as poems, songs, or religious verse. It’s probable that such incidents formed the backbone of mankind’s early myths and legends. The Sky People have been visiting us since the beginning of time. Their long hair and fingers have supplied us with our lore of demons, angels, and gods, just as their often mischievous activities have caused them to be labeled devils, and have supported the ancient belief (which is still adhered to by millions of people) that they walk freely among us, attracting very little notice.

While the above works are almost purely the result of interpretation and inference, similar ideas have seeped out of the government insider/whistleblower world. (Whether such ideas are the result of insiders reading ancient astronaut books or actual insider knowledge of a different type is another question.) In 2025, for example, Christopher Sharp wrote for the Liberation Times:

The most haunting claim, several insiders told Liberation Times, is that Earth may not truly belong to us.

They allege that non-human species have lived here since humanity’s earliest hours – and that some still abduct people today.

It is, they warn, a truth too unsettling to unveil publicly.

Human Origins

According to the Cassiopaeans, 4D STS has interfered with humanity since its inception.

Q: (L) The Sumerian story of the creation of human beings involves a story where they say they killed a god and mixed his blood and parts to mix with mud and then planted it in these female “gestation” goddesses and that this is where the human race came from. [See the summaries of Sitchin’s work in the books by Jim Marrs and Arthur Horn, as well as DeLonge and Levenda’s presentation of Babylonian myth, which eschews Sitchin’s idiosyncratic interpretations.] Now, this sounds an awful lot like what the “Grays” are doing at the present time. Did someone actually kill a “god,” break his soul in pieces and thereby make the human race?

A: Symbolism and not correct event sequence.

Q: (L) What was that story about? What was the real seed event?

A: Lizard beings genetically altering the human race after battle for their own feeding purposes.

Q: (L) When did these events that these Sumerian stories are talking about take place?

A: 309000 years ago, approx.

Q: (L) So, it happened so long ago that these stories have lost the truth?

A: Reflection passed down through psychic memory channel.

Q: (L) At one point in a previous transmission it was stated that the Lizard beings altered the human race after a battle for their own “feeding” purposes. Could you clarify this?

A: It would not be possible for these beings to completely control your existence. If it were, you would not be able to do the things your race has done. There has been interference by the Lizard beings in the physical structure of the human beings for their own benefit. […] For 74,000 years, they have been interfering in a backwards and forwards time-reference manner in order to set up circumstances that they perceive to be beneficial for them in […] the future. […] They are suspended in the time cycle as they do this. So what they perceive as being your equivalent of one hour could be as long as 74,000 years. [According to Ra, the 3rd-density cycle is 75–76,000 years.]

Q: (L) So they haven’t been here for 300,000 years?

A: They originally set up circumstances for their benefit 309,000 years ago. However, they have been using the particular bracketed […] 74,000-year period [to] alter things […]

Homo sapiens is estimated to be approximately 305,000 years old (260–350k), and 74 kya is the date of the Toba super-eruption on Sumatra – one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history. Modern humans are said to have come “out of Africa” around 72,000 years ago – perhaps precipitated by the Toba eruption, as argued, for example, by Bruce R. Frenton in The Forgotten Exodus: The Into Africa Theory of Human Evolution (2017).

Serpentine gods are common the world over, often as one of the primordial gods of chaos associated with creation. They are also common in hallucinatory and religious experiences, such as ayahuasca and DMT sessions. Joshua Cutchin, in A Trojan Feast, cites an experience of anthropologist Michael Harner, who experienced an ayahuasca vision of a young Earth overwhelmed by “large, shiny, black creatures with stubby pterodactyl-like wings and huge whale bodies” – “dragons” who communicated to Harner that they had spawned humanity for their own ends and were “the true masters of the world.” Harner relayed this to a shaman, who grinned and replied, “Oh, they’re always saying that. But they are only the Masters of Outer Darkness.”

Q: (thorbiorn) Session 23 March 2019: “In 4D, eventually it will be your job to engineer lifeforms on new worlds.” New question: Could you say something about what 4D STO does in this capacity?

A: Populates worlds and guides them benevolently. […]

Q: (L) How does that compare to 4D STS?

A: 4D STS engineers to be fed and served.

One of the first contactees, engineer Daniel Fry, had a close encounter in 1950 at the White Sands Missile Proving Ground in New Mexico with a being who called himself “Alan.” Fry’s first interactions with Alan were reportedly strictly telepathic, though he claimed to have met him “in person” in 1954. Fry claimed that Alan told him that mankind was genetically engineered by an advanced alien race, which, as Moira McGhee puts it, “used the Earth as a testing ground for a diversity of life forms.” This was perhaps the first instance of this idea entering modern UFO mythology post-Fort.

Among the briefing documents Bob Lazar read at S-4 in 1989 were the following claims, as related in Michael Hesemann and Philip Mantle’s Beyond Roswell (1997): “Apparently they [the Zeta-Reticulans] had been controlling the evolution of the human race for thousands of years and had manipulated the genes of Homo sapiens about sixty-five times so far, mostly during the last ten thousand years, to correct its evolution.”

Q: (L) Who were the Anunnaki [the divine pantheon of the ancient Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians and Babylonians, descendents of the god An and goddess Ki]?

A: Aliens.

Q: (L) Where were they from?

A: Zeta Reticuli.

In other words, according to the C’s cosmology, the Anunnaki would be more or less equivalent to the “Orion Union” (e.g. Reptilians and Grays).

Q: (L) Was the human race genetically engineered to be slaves?

A: Yes.

Q: (L) And who were the genetic engineers of this slavehood?

A: Lizard beings.

In Sekret Machines, Tom DeLonge and Peter Levenda sum up the Babylonian view on human origins: that we were crafted by the “gods” as “artificial beings and programmed workers designed to make the lives of the gods easier,” i.e. slaves.

Over forty years earlier, in 1974 (pre-Sitchin, who popularized the idea), Keel wrote: “This legend of slavery is found in every culture. The gods ordered men to expend enormous amounts of labor in the construction of seemingly senseless monuments, and to make bloody sacrifices in tribute.” This was also Horn’s conclusion after his study of ufology, mythology (including Sitchin’s work) and channeled material. He came to believe that mankind was created (not just tweaked) through genetic engineering by “reptile-like humanoids” who then enslaved and controlled us for thousands of years. Horn, a physical anthropologist who abandoned the field after becoming disillusioned with its presuppositions, wrote:

I have discovered […] evidence of an enormous machination of long standing to keep humankind ignorant of its true origins in order that the human species on Earth can be controlled and “used”. […] I found strong evidence that groups of regressive ETs, always with the help of a few humans, have conspired and are conspiring to keep knowledge of the ET influences in human evolution hidden from humankind. […] They do this to keep humankind from spiritually evolving to the point where their own dark influences and imprints would no longer have any effect upon humankind.

A: All [humans] are hybrids. At some juncture.

Zecharia Sitchin also popularized this perspective based on his interpretation of Sumerian myth. DeLonge and Levenda, referring to the Sumerian and Babylonian creation myths, concurred: “Humans are already a hybrid race from this perspective.” Joseph Farrell, in Genes, Giants, Monsters and Men, drawing on the same myths (and Christian and Barbara Joy O’Brien’s The Genius of the Few), sees mankind emerging as “1) a creature deliberately created or invented for the specific function of being a laborer, a serf, for the ‘gods’; and, 2) a creature that is a chimera, a hybrid of two different creatures: (a) the gods, and (b) some presumably pre-existing terrestrial hominid.”

In his Alien Agendas, Richard Dolan favorably cites Colleen Clements, who similarly “argued that humans are a hybrid race,” genetically enhanced around 40,000 years ago. Dolan himself thinks that if this scenario is accurate, such history may have been transmitted to us through myths such as those of the sky gods, citing the Mongolian sky diver god Erlik Khan as one such example.

Q: (L) Well, then how did mankind come to be here?

A: Combination of factors. Numerous souls desired physical existence, then was altered by three forces including principally Lizards through Grays, Nephalim [this is the C’s spelling, discussed in a later section of this series] and Orion Union. […]

Q: (L) When the numerous souls did this, how did physical existence come to be?

A: First was apelike.

Tasked with remote viewing the origin of humanity in 1983, Joseph McMoneagle described a shoreline on a primitive Earth millions of years ago. On it was a family of “protohumans” – “hairy animals about four feet in height, walking upright and possessing eyes exhibiting a spark of intelligence,” as Jim Marrs summarized it in Our Occulted History. McMoneagle said during the session that they were specifically “put there”: “They mysteriously appeared. They are not descended from an earlier species, they were put there [by a] seed ship […] no, that’s not right. […] I keep seeing […] oh, hell, for lack of a better word, let’s call it a laboratory. They are actually constructing animals from genes.”

Q: (L) And then what happened? Did these apelike being just pop into the air? What did the souls do with these apelike beings?

A: Souls altered them by transfer.

Q: (L) Transfer of what?

A: Souls into seeded bodies. Orion Union was first into Neanderthal.

Q: (L) The Orion souls came into Neanderthal bodies?

A: No. Put humans there for incubation process. [2019-3-23: “Human souls were put into Neanderthal to incubate and induce direct DNA changes.”]

Q: (L) Were altered ape embryos put back into ape females for gestation?

A: No. Souls only.

Q: (L) They put the souls into the ape bodies?

A: Close.

Q: (L) Did the soul’s presence in the ape body cause its genetics and DNA to change?

A: Yes.

Q: (L) They entered into living creatures on this planet to experience 3D reality and by entering in caused mutation?

A: Yes.

Q: (L) Then were altered by Orion Union first.

A: They resemble you.

Q: (L) Who resembles us?

A: The Orions. […]

Q: (L) Are some of the Orions not good guys as we would term it?

A: Yes.

Q: (L) Are some of them good guys?

A: Yes.

Q: (L) So, you are saying that the original creators or genetic engineers were Orions?

A: Close. The original engineers but not inhabitants.

Ray Fowler speculated in his 1990 book, The Watchers, that both the Grays (whom he calls Watchers) and humans may be related to a common ancestor: Nordics. He writes: “Evidence indicates that mankind’s heredity may be related to the tall, blue-eyed, blond, robed entities seen by Betty and others.” He raises the possibility that the scenario in Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke’s 2001: A Space Odyssey is true: that ETs “were responsible for producing Man from his primate relatives.” (Otto Binder had suggested the same thing in 1968’s Flying Saucers Are Watching Us.) Fowler asks: “Was Cro-Magnon Man placed on earth intact or was he the result of a genetic transformation of Neanderthal Man by alien beings?” In 2022, Nigel Kerner proposed a similar idea, in his case that the Grays “genetically engineered a primitive hominid form that existed on our planet to, over thousands of years, triple its brain size.”

Sitchin, in his somewhat anachronistic interpretation of Sumerian texts, saw a more biological and less metaphysical process of direct biological engineering in Earth laboratories.

Q: (L) Who are the Nordic-type aliens?

A: Your ancestors.

Q: (L) What planet did they come from?

A: Several and transitory.

Q: (L) What is their type called? Just the Nordic types?

A: That is as good as any description.

Q: (L) What is their purpose here on the planet at this time?

A: Observation.

Q: (L) Haven’t they been seen with the Lizzies on occasion?

A: Yes.

Q: (L) Are they involved with the Lizzies?

A: Some are.

Q: (L) Are some of them not nice?

A: Fifty-fifty.

Q: (L) Do they ever abduct people?

A: Have but not too often. When they do, they do not give back.

Q: (L) What do they do with the ones they abduct?

A: Take away to too many other places to mention. Purpose is multiple. Too complex.

As mentioned above, Jorjani, Rux and Farrell all see the human Nordic type as humanity’s creators. However, Farrell and Jorjani both seem to believe that the Reptilians were (and are) simply the result of genetic experimentation on the part of these ancient, advanced humans.

September 16, 1995

Q: (L) Alright, the Orions created the Hebrews. What was the purpose for which this genetic variation was created?

A: Manipulation.

In The Watchers II, Ray Fowler observed that in addition to receiving religious and moral precepts, the Israelites had imposed upon them “directives analogous to breeding methodology,” directives which were “governed by a form of strict reward and punishment training.”

The above scenario is analogous to modern breeding programs. In order to produce a certain form of animal, a modern breeder would separate a number of animals from the main herd. The chosen animals would be segregated and prevented from interbreeding with outsiders. […] It is quite apparent that this religious control system has continued into modern times.

Later, Nigel Kerner wondered whether “some among us have been programmed by alien experimenters […] to keep certain groups of humanity separate so as to preserve the integrity of an experiment.” He believed that the Europeans/Hebrews/Caucasians may be “a special genotype whose DNA is accessible for the Greys’ purposes.”

As for more religious or miraculous displays, these too may be seen as tools of control or social engineering (as in the case of the Marian apparitions from a previous section): “Whether angel, theophany or other, the entities in the Bible have used religious teachings backed up by the demonstration of paranormal displays as a form of physical and moral control over the form of human—the very source of their survival.” This recalls the C’s statement about Orion STS “sending pillars of light and chariots of fire to deliver the message” (1997-7-19). Or as Nigel Kerner put it: Grays using their technology to produce “voices from thin air; burning bushes; pillars of fire.”

Q: (L) How did the people of that planet [i.e. “Kantek”] come to Earth? Did they know it was going to be destroyed?

A: Some knew and were taken by Lizzies and they [the Lizzies, presumably, given 1994-9-30 above] are the Annunaki [sic].

September 24, 1995

A: We have close affiliation with the “Northern peoples.” Why? Because we were in regular, direct contact with them on Kantek, before they were “lifted” to Earth by Orion STS.

This alternative history will be discussed more in a future series. Briefly, the C’s transcripts have Europeans ultimately originating on the putative “exploded planet” which became the current asteroid belt. The C’s call this planet Kantek, whereas prior sources, like Williamson (followed by Ra), called it Maldek. (In astronomy, this hypothetical planet is commonly named Phaeton.) After the planet’s destruction, its pale-skinned survivors were transferred to Earth.

Williamson associated Maldek’s destruction with subsequent meteor bombardments on Earth, which he believed occurred soon after the biblical Exodus, ca. 1500 BC. In addition to his reading of biblical and mythological sources, he cites Heinrich Wilhelm Olbers, who discovered the asteroids Pallas and Ceres and first proposed the exploded-planet hypothesis for their origin in the early 1800s.

The idea followed parallel trajectories in astronomy and contactee channeling in the years after Williamson. In several of his books (such as 1973’s The Mysterious Past), Charroux argued that the Nordic/Celtic race came from a planet more distant from the Sun than Earth, coming to populate the northern regions such as Iceland and Greenland, which he identified as Hyperborea. These Hyperboreans were the white-skinned gods of the Americas (e.g. Viracocha, Quetzalcoatl). In 1976, astronomer Thomas Van Flandern speculated that Mars was once the moon of Phaeton (or “Planet V”) and that it may have been the origin of humanity. Richard Hoagland and Joseph Farrell later advocated for the hypothesis in their respective works.

In The Cosmic War (2007), Farrell follows Van Flandern’s original estimate dating Phaeton’s destruction at 3.2 million years ago. The C’s place it much later, associating it with the Toba super-eruption 74,000 years ago (2022-12-10), which they label as the first of three Atlantean cataclysms (2024-3-9), the third being the Younger-Dryas cometary impact. In Genes, Giants, Monsters, and Men (2011), the follow-up to Cosmic War, Farrell identifies Tiamat, the primeval serpent goddess from the Babylonian Enuma Elish, as representing the exploded planet.

In 2012, Professor of Sanskrit E.J. Michael Witzel published The Origins of the World’s Mythologies, which argued that, much like language and genetics, the world’s myths can be traced back to common ancestors. Through an analysis of various “mythemes” and the shape of overall mythic storylines, he discovered 2 main strains of myth, which he named Gondwana (for the earlier Afro-Australian myths) and Laurasian (for those held in common by all Eurasians, from western Europe to the Americas). The Laurasian “novel,” which he associates with the group of humans who came “out of Africa” to dominate the Eurasian landmass and which forms the skeleton for all Eurasian myth, had developed by 40,000 years ago and perhaps earlier.

Briefly, the structure of this near-universal story is as follows: creation from nothing/chaos, creation of Father Heaven/Mother Earth, Father Heaven engenders two generations (e.g. Titans and Olympians), four or five generations/ages follow, the current gods defeat/kill their predecessors (e.g. killing the dragon), the creation of humans, who show hubris and are punished with a flood, trickster deities bring culture, humans spread, “nobles” emerge, local history begins, leading to a final destruction and a new heaven/earth.

If the first Eurasians really were survivors from the exploded planet, this raises the possibility that the “Laurasian” storyline may reflect events leading to that planet’s destruction. This point is argued by Farrell in his analysis of the “cosmic war” texts like the Enuma Elish. (Alternately, aspects of the story, e.g. the Flood and subsequent developments, may reflect the global Younger-Dryas catastrophe of ca. 12,900 years ago and the subsequent re-teaching of civilization by the survivors who went underground and emerged later as “deep-level punctuators.”)

A: In this part of your 3rd- and 4th-density universe, specifically your “galaxy,” it is the region known as Orion that is the one and only indigenous home of human-type beings… reflect on this! Indigenous home base, not sole locator. What you are most in need of review of is the accurate profile of “alien” data.

Q: (RC) I thought that humans originated in Lyra and then a war broke out there and they ended up in Orion.

A: Lyra is not inhabited. There have been homes in all places, but some were/are transitory, and some are not. Pay attention to Orion! This is your ancestral home, and your eventual destination. […] The name “Orion” is the actual native name, and was brought to Earth directly. Study the legend of the “god” of Orion for parallels.

According to the Egyptian Pyramid Texts, the pharaohs would return to Orion after their death. Williamson, in Other Tongues, goes to great pains to show the importance of Orion in various world traditions. Curiously, two major ET identifiers propagated by contactees and channelers (the Pleiades and Orion) may have a biblical inspiration. Williamson cites Job 9:9: “Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.” Citing Job 38:31 (“the sweet influences of Pleiades”) and Greek myth (the Pleiades fleeing before Orion), he identifies the Pleiades as good and Orion as bad. Barbara Marciniak, among others, channeled “Pleiadians”; Norma J. Milanovich channeled “Arcturians.” (The C’s made multiple reference to both, e.g. 1994-12-10.)

The name Orion is Greek in origin, and while it seems unlikely that the Greeks alone among humans would retain the “actual native name,” there are curious ties between Greek mythology and the UFO phenomenon, from the infamous Roswell I-beam with the Greek word for “freedom” on it (which many believe was hoaxed by Ray Santilli) to three of Tom DeLonge’s advisors (one of whom was “of the highest ranks in multiple places in the government”) telling him to study Greek mythology, implying that the Greek gods were real, that they represented one alien race and that they interfaced directly with humanity.

Q: (L) OK, if it started with the Nordic types, and that is where the other humanoid combinations came from, what genetic combinations were used for human beings? Black people, for instance, since they are so unlike “Nordics”?

A: The Nordic genes were mixed with the gene pool already available on Earth, known as Neanderthal.

Neanderthal DNA was not sequenced until 13 years after this session, at which point it was discovered that modern humans share up to 8% of their DNA, with East Asians having the most and Africans the least. The above answer would thus be better suited to the first question, regarding humans in general. Up to 19% of modern West African DNA comes from an unknown archaic hominin (potentially Homo erectus or Homo habilis, neither genome of which have scientists been able to sequence).

Q: (L) What was the genetic combination used to obtain the Oriental races?

A: Orientals come from a region known in your legends as “Lemuria” [perhaps a reference to Sundaland, the now mostly undersea landmass of Southeast Asia], and are a previous hybridization from 7 genetic code structures from within Orion Union, designed to best fit the Earth climate and cosmic ray environment then existent on Earth.

Current genetic evidence suggests that modern East Asians split from European hunter-gatherers (who were themselves the product of modern humans “interbreeding” with Neanderthals) some 76–62,000 years ago

Q: (L) OK, what about the Semitic and Mediterranean peoples?

A: Each time a new flock was “planted,” it was engineered to be best suited to the environment where it was planted. Aryans are the only exception, as they had to be moved to Earth in an emergency.

Q: (L) If races are engineered on Earth to be “best suited,” what factors are being drawn from or considered regarding the Semitic race?

A: They are not engineered on Earth, but in Orion lab as all others. They were “planted” in the Middle East. […] All humanoid types originated in Orion region, there are and have been and will continue to be literally millions of colonies.

A: You are all Orion manufacture.

This view appears at odds with the current view of human evolution, according to which all humans originate from a single population, with periods of interbreeding with other human types (such as Neanderthal and Denisovan) and adjacent populations (e.g. between Western and Eastern European Hunter Gatherers) producing the races identifiable today. The C’s, rather, seem to imply a possible combination of the single-origin and multiregional hypotheses (according to which modern humans evolved from early hominids in more than one location and event). In this case, new “races” could partly be continuous with preexisting groups, but also genetically tweaked.

Q: (L) A lot of people are writing to me about dreams lately. They seem to be having a lot of dreams about beings in the sky, entering our reality. All kinds of strange things.

A: Beings come and go at will always, it is the awareness that is expanding.

Q: (L) Another trend of the dreams is being pursued, attacked, split up from their families, being put in concentration camps – just all kinds of things.

A: All are possible futures, just wait and see. There is an alien race that has plans to replace your physical vehicles with a new “model.” [See the chapter in volume 1 on the alien agenda.]

Q: (L) What are they going to do with the old models?

A: “Retire them.”

Q: (T) Which race is this?

A: Orion STS.

Rama, an avatar of Hindu Vishnu and embodiment of righteousness, is the protagonist of the epic Ramayana. According to legend, the demon king Ravana abducted Rama’s wife, Sita. Rama defeated Ravana, rescued Sita and returned to rule as a just king.

If the basic storyline of all Laurasian myths trace back to a single tradition, as Witzel argues, it is possible that Rama represents a specifically Hindu retelling of a more universally held history (as may be the case with the story of David and Goliath, as we will see in a future section of this series). Rama shares a place among a class of Laurasian heroes that includes Gilgamesh, Osiris, Herakles, Odysseus, Aeneas, Beowulf and Sigurd.
